Whitesand beaches and clear turquoise water are ubiquitous and each hotel is on it’s own private island, most of which you need to take a seaplane to get to. I admittedly didn’t take many pictures from my seaplane because I have a slight fear of small planes and taking off and landing on the water didn’t make it any better. However just as I had to overcome that fear, travel often pushes us to different limits and for me is the ultimate form of growth. This country embodies the ultimate tropical paradise for honeymooners, families, girls trips, scuba divers and any true traveler must add this one to the list. For me this was a family trip, along with my husband and our daughter who was less than one we had undoubtedly the most relaxing and refreshing trip. Every room in our hotel had an ocean view - I mean how can you not, when you’re on a private island - and plunge pool! The Maldives has completely spoiled me and now I often look for rooms with a private pool. On the last night we moved to an overwater, because let’s face it if you’re going to the Maldives you have to stay or at least go in an overwater villa. Pro tip: If for some reason you cannot stay in an overwater villa every night you can opt to stay for one night only or whatever the minimum is, so you can check your “stayed in an overnight water villa” mental box.

Believed to be the world’s most exclusive holiday destination, the Maldives is the epitome of ultra- luxury and quite possible the archetype when it comes to overwater villas.
